What I really wanted was somebody my age, sharing about their experiences for me to read and find comfort and hope in, whilst I was stuck at rock bottom. Very well put
Sean, you are precious, and I know in my soul, you have helped many addicts with your story. Some may not even reach out and comment, but they are there. Believe me. You are touching many lives with your honest recounting. Love you my friend!
I love these essays. Great work Sean. Congratulations. I love AA and its the best thing I ever found in my life. I am heartbroken about it right now though and have stayed away for years. I might write an essay on it. I probably should. But the 12 step thing is profound, for sure. Congrats on your bravery to be transparent, I think overwhelmingly, most people really respect that.
I think it is so helpful for you to take that plunge, to be that person. For a young person looking at getting into recovery, the rest of their life is a very long time, finding fellowship in their age group is crucial it seems to me!
Great post Sean. Representation Matters - as they say. Addiction gains power when it is left to do its dark magic in the shadows. Seeing people like yourself talk openly about their experience shines a light into those shadows and helps to dissolve the shame that keeps people stuck.
I so understand this. That's why I write as well.

Thank you! Definitely seem like we've had similar experiences :) All we can do is share the best we can.

Agreed! And yes, when I first entered the rooms, thinking about not gambling again forever was very overwhelming!

I agree Paul! Thanks so much for reminding me too - it's so hard to forget the good that comes from sharing openly.
